X12 Delimiter Detector

Reads delimiters from ISA positions 3, 82 (ISA11), 104 (ISA16) and 105 and verifies the 16 fixed separator positions.

How it works

The element separator is the 4th character of the ISA, the repetition separator is ISA11 (position 82, used from version 00501; in 00401 ISA11 is the standards identifier), the component separator is ISA16 (position 104) and the segment terminator is position 105. Checks: ISA length of at least 106; the element separator must appear at all 16 fixed positions (3, 6, 17, 20, 31, 34, 50, 53, 69, 76, 81, 83, 89, 99, 101, 103), which proves the fixed-width fields are the right size; the four delimiters must be distinct and not letters, digits or spaces; a line break used as the terminator is reported; the number of terminators found is compared with the segment count; counts of ISA, GS and ST segments are shown. ISA12 decides whether ISA11 is read as a repetition separator.
